The Homemaker

Once upon a time there was a little girl called Dianne, she grew up watching the stars of the silver screen and having mom plant the little seeds of the past as well as some new ones. I watched excitedly as Errol Flynn swash buckled his way to the damsel in distress to being mesmerized by the famous peek-a-boo hairstyle of Veronica Lake, and not to mention having a childhood crush on Richard Burton. Even re-runs of Bewitched and I Love Lucy  held me in awe. I was also captivated by going through my grandmother's photo album and seeing the sepia toned photos and images from the past. My mother would tell me stories about when she was growing up, she was part of the baby boom in the late 40s. Stories of how women, men, and even children would not dare leave their homes without coats, hats, and gloves. I could just imagine families walking the street even to do the most mundane task or chore and they still would dress in what today's standards of going to a fancy dinner. As well as all mommy's wanting their little girls to look just like Shirley Temple.

As one does, we grow up. Even in my teens I still enjoyed my old movies, seeing the costumes, the homes, and just imagining what it would be like if things had stayed that way. Little did I realize the world that was out there, I suppose I thought once it was gone it was gone.

You guessed it! Time moves on and here we are...a little older and as a adult I finally realised I can actually have a piece of this wonderful era. That is what I am aiming for, a good mix of modern meets vintage and let me tell you...it is hard. I am a wife and work a full time job even with that I still try to look after my husband the way my mother would tell me about when she was growing up. But I will say I am lucky enough that he pitches in and helps, I am not sure I could be a full time working and house wife at the same time. So to start myself off... its my little weekend job shall we say.

Well what can I say about me? I enjoy cooking and creating, with a natural artistic flare I become restless if I am not doing something...even if it is wrong. I am married and celebrated my 10 year wedding anniversary last year, I have 2 cats, Widget and Scrumpy. I have uprooted myself from my home and family in the USA to live in the UK with my husband. I have only in the last year or so decided to approach the scary world of blogging and I hope to meet and become friends with those that share this hobby, passion, or life style. So don't be to critical hehe I am a bit of a newb but feed back welcome.

See you out there!
